Family Support Specialists (FSS) are available to assist in removing non academic barriers that many families face during challenging times. Our goal is to lighten the mental load that many students carry with them that can have a negative impact on their ability to learn. We help connect our families to community resources so they can navigate some of the barriers that life throws at them. We can offer assistance with locating basic needs (clothing, food, furniture, housing, etc), help promote positive interactions between home and school, help build positive relationships between students through peer mentoring, assist with gaining reliable transportation and help assist families in locating other resources as needed.
We do not have all the answers to life, but we know where to locate some of them!
Community Connections
Want to be a part of helping build this community? The FSS is always looking for individuals and businesses to partner with to help support our families! We meet once every 3 months to connect community and school events and help individuals get integrated into the school. If this is something you would be interested in, please contact Julianna to be added to the e-mail list.

We offer a weekend food program through the school to help combat food insecurity over the weekend when students may have limited access to food called the Mustang Meals Program. This program is not government funded so any student is allowed to sign up no matter the qualifications. These bags are distributed every Friday with easy to prepare, shelf stable items that any student can utilize. An idea of some of the iems that most likely will be included would be Mac and Cheese cups, Chef Boyardee Meals, oatmeal, cereal, fruit cups, applesauce pouch, granola bars and other snack type items. Bags are given to Elementary teachers and Middle/High School students will have the bags placed in their students lockers. This program starts Spet 25th and will run throughout the entire school year.

Tuslaw has an in-school clothing closet in between the Middle and High School. We have sizes ranging from childrens 4T all the way to Adult 2XL. This closet is open to students throughout the entire year and they are able to take clothing from there at zero charge to them. We host events twice a year when the clothing closet is open to any family in the district. Our space is limited so if your student is ever in need of clothing please reach out and let me know what you are looking for.
